SLUM VILLAGE – legendary hip-hop group from Detroit USA. Founded in 1996 by rappers T3 and Baatin and producer Jay Dee, who became known to the world primarily as J Dilla.
Over the years, the group has collaborated with artists such as Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest, Common, D’Angelo, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Pete Rock, Kurupt, or Q-Tip.
The trio debuted in 1997 with the unofficial release “Fan-tas-tic vol. 1”. The album, which now has the status of a classic, was officially released only in 2005. Another iconic record, “Fantastic vol. 2” saw the light of day in 2000, followed by more albums, mixtapes, remixes, singles and compilations.
Over the years the lineup went through personnel changes. In 2001 J Dilla left the lineup, and later tragically passed away in 2006, and in 2009 Baatin had also passed away. For several years, Slum Village was also joined by J Dilla’s younger brother, Illa J. Slum Village is now T3 and Young RJ.
